PearlHelix Learn Ask for your course

For teachers · Live class

Every student answers. Live.

Teach from your screen and voice. Students answer timed questions on their phones, and quietly tell you when they’re lost.

The teacher’s screen: 29 students here, 3 of 29 answered, 1:21 left, and the answers to three questions as bars
A student’s phone: help signals (Question, Lost, Slower, Repeat, Can’t hear) and a timed question with True and False buttons
The real screens, in a practice class with test students

How a class runs

  1. Students join with their school Google account. One tap, and next time they’re straight in. Other accounts can only watch until you let them in.
  2. They see your screen and hear you. Share slides, a browser tab or your whole screen, with your mic and camera if you like. Nothing to install: it runs in the browser.
  3. Everyone answers. Open a question and one timer runs for the whole room. Answers are marked as they arrive; show the class the results as bars with no names, then talk it through.
  4. No one stays lost in silence. Students tap Lost, Slower, Repeat, Can’t hear or Question, and you see the count at once. These signals are never stored.

What’s inside

The stage

Your screen, its sound, your mic and camera, sent live to every student.

Timed questions

True or false, one choice, several choices or a short typed answer, prepared for each week or written on the spot. The server keeps the timer, so it’s the same on every phone.

Live results

How many answered and how many are right, part by part, while the question is open.

Chat, class and private

A class chat that pauses while a question is open, private questions to you, and mute for one student.

Each student’s own record

Students see their answers from recent classes, and the right answers once the week’s classes are over.

Attendance and records

Who joined, when and for how long. Download every class as a spreadsheet (CSV) or JSON when it ends.

Privacy built in

Class records leave the server 7 days after each class, accounts go at the end of term, and a student can delete theirs at any time. The full notice.

Light on phones

Students only watch and tap: their camera and mic stay off, and the class is not recorded.

Questions

Do students need to install anything?

No. It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or laptop.

Which accounts can sign in?

Google accounts. Addresses from your institution join as students; any other account can only watch until you let it in.

Is the class recorded?

No. Your screen and voice are streamed live and not recorded. Students send no video or sound.

Can we use our own questions?

Yes. Each week’s questions are prepared with you, and you can write a new one during the class.

Where are the records kept?

On our host, Cloudflare. Class records are deleted 7 days after each class, so you download them before then. See the privacy notice.
